Two months ago, I took the train to Oslo. We were a whole crew, going to visit Hanna, my former classmate who just moved there to start a PhD. Half of my master’s class, renting a beautiful apartment in central Oslo for the weekend. My first stop was Botanisk Hage, the Oslo university botanical garden,Continue reading “reunions & winter gardens in Oslo”

Sahelian stories: A young researcher trying out social media
Some weeks ago, I was the guest editor of Stockholm Resilience Centre’s Instagram account under the hashtag #SRCFieldwork. Every week, a master’s or PhD student or researcher at the center posts photos and tells stories from their fieldwork experiences. The idea is to give some insight into the work behind the research and also shareContinue reading “Sahelian stories: A young researcher trying out social media”
me and the budding sustainability professionals of the world
I graduated in June. I keep on telling this to people, from different perspectives, how I defended my thesis in the morning and after lunch attended my first official team meeting as a research assistant. How that’s a reason for why I’ve been feeling so exhausted this fall. How I didn’t realize until quite recentlyContinue reading “me and the budding sustainability professionals of the world”
from thesis to article
I haven’t only been cleaning data this fall, though. Since I’m working with the same supervisors and in the same general geographical study area, the line between my current project and the finished master’s project has become a little bit blurred. As part of my work, I have therefore also been allowed to edit myContinue reading “from thesis to article”
the first week of June, when everything happened at once
I finished my thesis. But you know that already. Turned it in on June 1st. Had beers with Roweena, Phil, Ashley, Dries and Josh (the last three only there for sympathy reasons, they are still working on their theses). A wet night that ended with us drinking cloudberry liquor and watching Buffy the Vampire SlayerContinue reading “the first week of June, when everything happened at once”
the last month of thesis writing (May 2015)
The month of May is a blur. I don’t remember anymore what I did, except long days of trying to write and making figures, in the computer lab in the Geoscience building together with Roweena and Jessica (among others), and alone at home. I can’t remember if I did anything else, even properly go outsideContinue reading “the last month of thesis writing (May 2015)”
the graduation party
I had a graduation party of sorts yesterday. Late, granted, but there was just so much going on around the time when I actually did graduate, so we couldn’t fit it in until now. And this is probably going to be the most boring post I’ve written, or at least among them, because here IContinue reading “the graduation party”
hello again
It’s been a while. I’ve been busy. I won’t tell you everything, but here is a brief outline. I managed to turn in my master’s thesis, almost exactly one month ago. I presented and graduated, and now I have a master’s degree in sustainability science. But no time to rest. I presented in the morning.Continue reading “hello again”
the impossibility of nights
Sleep can be hard to come by sometimes. When Discussions haven’t been written and the pressure of it all causes emotional hypersensitivity. Insomnia makes me claustrophobic. I watch Becoming Jane, a costume drama about Jane Austen before she became the author Jane Austen. And I think: She created some of the most exquisitely written novels in theContinue reading “the impossibility of nights”
#25: Workaholics (March 28th)
Spending the Saturday in a computer room in the Geoscience building, trying to make sense of statistics. My life now. At least, I was in good company. Four other laborious souls, trying to make sense of their own result inconsistencies. Elli even brought a picnic.
