HOW I STARTED WRITING

I wrote my first short story at the age of seven. It was a tale about a horse.

I started working on my first novel when I was eleven. I never finished it.

In my teens I wrote short stories and poetry about longing and being lost.

At eighteen, I read my first book of essays by Bodil Malmsten. It inspired me to start a blog. Back then, in my twenties, I mostly wrote about traveling.

Now, I write short format texts about ways of belonging on Planet Earth. About places, people and the vagabond life of an early career academic. On the blog, of course.

Me at 11 on a dhow floating along the coast of Zanzibar, Tanzania, at the time when I was working on that first novel.
