HANNES’ BOHUS JUMPER

Finishing date: January 2022. Photographed by Katja Malmborg in September 2022.

I made Hannes this jumper.

It is inspired by Bohusstickning – I’ve been wanting to riff off that style, originally from the region Bohuslän on the west coast of Sweden, for a while. It felt appropriate to give it to Hannes, as one branch of his family tree comes from Bohuslän.

Kind of. Mostly, I just wanted to try out the design. And make something for Hannes. Because he’s great. After we first met while being neighbors in Dar es Salaam in our pre-teens, we have never lived in the same town for more than a couple of months at a time – but when we meet, or on the phone, we can talk for hours and the older I get, the more I realize just how special it is when someone gets you. And enjoys it. Quirks, pettinesses and all. Hannes does. And he needed wool to wear in his old, chilly farmhouse.

We met up in Uppsala in September 2022 and I took some photos of him in the amazing, excessively lush Uppsala botanic garden.
