I was at a summer school in southern France when the news reached me that my good friend David had had something really tough happen to him. There was nothing I could do about it, but I felt distraught and unbalanced and sitting on the long train-rides across Europe on my return home, I started sketching on a jumper design. I could see the colors on him, and I thought that this is something that I actually can do.
It went very quickly, making it, and it made David happy when I gave it to him. Not that it in any way made the tough thing better. For some things in life, there just are no shortcuts. But at least with a handmade, alpaca jumper, one doesn’t have to be cold while dealing.
