VIVI’S RAM CARDIGAN

Finishing date: August 2017. Photographed by Katja Malmborg in October 2017.

This cardigan. The work that went into it. To be honest, at the time, I probably wasn’t skilled enough to pull it off. But we had so much fun, Vivi and I, discussing the design, her choosing the colors and explaining how she wanted it to look and finding those beautiful Norwegian hooks to use instead of buttons. But I did the measurements all wrong and the way I had combined the colors in the pattern turned the skeins into bird’s nest tangles of yarn. Basically, I had no idea of what I was doing.

The end product, though, turned out really lovely. And Vivi wears it so beautifully. And I did learn a lot from making it. How to combine colors, design knittable patterns, making better measurements. It was definitely worth it. It was just the process of making it that surprised me at the time, how unproportionately time-consuming it is to make your own designs from scratch for someone else.
